<p>JUDGES</p>
<p><strong>Jon Alpert</strong> has distinguished himself as an award-winning documentary filmmaker. He has won three Primetime Emmy Awards, eleven News &#038; Documentary Emmy Awards, one National Emmy for Sports Programming, four Columbia DuPont Awards, and a Peabody Award. He was an Academy Award nominee this year for <em>China’s Unnatural Disaster: The Tears of Sichuan Province</em>. He is also co-founder and director of Downtown Community Television Center (DCTV), America’s largest and most honored non-profit community media center.</p>
<p><strong>Michael Hausman</strong> received a BA from Cornell in 1957. He has produced or executive-produced most of Milos Forman&#8217;s films including <em>Amadeus, Man on the Moon, The People vs. Larry Flynt, Ragtime</em>, and <em>Hair</em>. He has also produced films for directors David Mamet, Mike Nichols, Robert Benton, Ang Lee, Richard Pearce, and Robert M. Young. Recently, he received an Emmy award for HBO’s <em>Recount</em>. He is president of Filmhaus and Cinehaus Inc. and has taught at Columbia since 1978.</p>
<p><strong>Joan Stein Schimke</strong> was nominated for an Academy Award for <em>One Day Crossing</em>, which also won the Student Academy Award® Gold Medal and the DGA Best Woman Student Filmmaker. Other directing credits include several short films and an episode of “Law &#038; Order.” She worked as Production Coordinator on Eric Mendelsohn’s <em>3 Backyards</em>, Locations Coordinator on Woody Allen&#8217;s <em>Deconstructing Harry</em>, and assistant to director Bette Gordon on <em>Luminous Motion</em>. Joan is an Assistant Professor at Adelphi University and is currently developing a number of feature film projects.</p>
